Drawing 15, 19.5 X
27.4 cm.
A gigantic snake
swallowing a stag, by Hokusai.
Published in
Oguri gaiden, vol. 4, Plates 3B – 4A, in 1814 (?).

Changes
from drawing to print:
- The archers’
names and branches in the top right, above the rocks, have been added.
Artist's shorthand:
- The snake’s
body
- The vegetation.
In particular, we can see that while some of the balls of pine needles are
only represented by a circle, many of the blades of grass are each drawn
individually, only needing to be copied.
